Service Description

Music Brains classes are a singing, moving, instrument-playing way to build community and to foster healthy child development. We create a space for families of diverse backgrounds to learn music and bits of parenting culture from each other. But you don’t exactly have to be the singing type, because Petra brings everything children and caregivers need to participate. Petra Gelbart, PhD, MT-BC is an ethnomusicologist-turned-music-therapist who believes everyone learns better when their music has plenty of variety and emotion. She is the mom of three kids through both adoption and birth, with over 20 years of experience working with children of all abilities. Music Brains – everyone is included! The recommended age range for this class is 1-3 years, but older and younger kids are welcome. Classes are $170 for an eight-week outside session, and $27 for drop-in if there is space available. Discounts are available for families who are unable to pay full price. Please invite neighbors who may not find other music classes financially accessible. I WILL E-MAIL YOU PAYMENT INFORMATION. Classes will be held OUTSIDE on the grass at Travers Park in Jackson Heights. We will make up any classes missed due to inclement weather. Siblings are free as long as they stay on the same blanket. All instruments will be sanitized between users, and feel free to bring your own as well.
